The quake struck Gilgit at 21.06 hours, Indian Meteorological department said.
However, no report of any casualty or damage to property has been reported so far in Doda and Kishtwar where the quake was measured 2.3 on the Richter scale, according to local Meteorological department.
"An earthquake of magnitude of 4.9 was recorded on the Richter Scale at 9.05 PM in the Kashmir region with its Latitude 36.2 North and Longitude 74.0 East with a depth of 97 km," said Shailesh Nayak, Secretary, and Ministry of Earth Sciences.
