The Eastern Command today paid rich tributes to martyrs while marking the 66th Army Day.
Lt Gen M M S Rai, Eastern Army commander, laid a wreath at Vijay Smarak in Fort William on the occasion to remember the sacrifices made by the martyrs.
Army Day is observed on this day every year to mark the occasion wherein General K M Cariappa took over as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army on 15 Jan 1949 from the then British Commander Sir Roy Bucher.
