Easy day for seeds in junior national tennis championship
Press Trust of India New Delhi Third seed Siddhanth Banthia and fourth seed Nitin Kumar Sinha scored contrasting victories enroute to the boys U-16 quarterfinals of the Fenesta Open Junior National Tennis Championship, here today.
Banthia had to work hard in getting the better of Danish Ahmad 6-2 7-5 but Nitin had an easy outing as he demolished Himanshu Mor 6-0 6-0 in the third matches.
Parikshit Somani also advanced with a 6-1 6-2 win over Mrityunjai Badola.
In Girls under-16 third round, top seed Sathwika Sama thrashed Avanthika Sai 6-2 6-2 while second seed Shivani Ingle toyed with Aesha Patel for a 6-2 6-1 win.
Third seed Mahak Jain was also in good touch as she dumped Manjana Shivani 6-0, 6-4.
In the Boys' Under-14 event, there was more agony for top seed Himanshu Mor as he lost in straight sets to rank outsider Shashikant Rajput (4-6, 3-6). However, second seed Sacchitt Sharrma had to rally to beat Uddayvir Singh 2-6 6-3 6-3 as both players tested each other in baseline rallies.
Girls' Under-14 top seed Prinkle Singh eased into the quarter-finals as she had an easy game against Kiran Kal Kal for a 6-2 6-0 win. Second seed Shreya Gulia was also in the comfort zone as she thumped Rutuparna Choudhury 6-1 6-2.
