EC issues show cause notice to Trinamool candidate Satabdi Roy

The Election Commission today issued show cause notice to Satabdi Roy, Trinamool Congress candidate from Birbhum, for allegedly giving assurances of development in the area to the people in violation to the Model Code of Conduct.
"Roy has to reply within a day," the OSD in CEO's office Amit Roy Chowdhury said here.
The EC sought a report from the district magistrate of Birbhum yesterday on Roy's assurance to people during an election campaign at Mohammad Bazar in her constituency, Roy Chowdhury said.
"We sought the DM's report suo motu after going through her statement in different TV channels. According to the video footage, she was seen assuring people that areas supporting her party will get priority on development works. We have received the DM's report today," the OSD said.

Roy's assurance to the people was partial in nature and in violation to the Model Code of Conduct, EC sources said, adding nobody can divide people on the line of their thinking.
During campaigning, Roy had said she would give priority for development in those areas where from she would get more support during the elections, to which opposition parties took exception.
