The Election Commission has issued an order regarding the identification of voters for the Assam Assembly election to prevent impersonation of voters and help the bonafide voters at the time of poll.
The Commissioner has directed all the electorates, who have been issued Elector's Voter Identity Card, to produce the EPIC for their identification at the polling stations before casting votes.
But those electors who are not able to produce the EPIC shall produce any one of the alternative photo identity documents like Passport, Driving License, Service Identity Cards with photograph issued to employees by Central/ State Governments/ PSUs/ Public Limited Companies, Passbook with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office, PAN Card.
Smart Card issued under NPR, MNREGA Job Card, Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour, Pension document with photograph, Authenticated Photo Voters' Slip issued by the election machinery and Official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs could also be used as alternate document to establish their identity.
Complying with the ECI order, Kamrup Election District Administration has taken adequate steps to facilitate the voters in all the polling stations of Boko, Chaygaon, Palashbari and Hajo LACs by distributing Authenticated Photo Voters Slip to all electors before the poll day.
However, on the day of poll one Block Level Officer-run Facilitation Desk will be set up outside each polling station of the four LACs during polling hours with undistributed Photo Voters Slips so that any elector, who has not been issued Authenticated Photo Voters Slip, can collect the same in original outside the polling stations as per ECI order, an official release said.
Steps have been taken to give wide publicity of the ECIs order through print and electronic media for information of the general public and electors, the release said.
A total of ll contestants have been informed in writing of this directive of the Commission, while all the Presiding Officers are briefed about the contents of the order and its copy will be made available to them for guidance.
