He was 76 and is survived by a daughter and a son, family sources said.
Srinivasan, who was also the Director of city-based Indian Institute of Economics, had twice suffered paralytic stroke and was bedridden from December-end but was recovering slowly, the sources said.
A 1963-batch IAS officer, he was known for his outspokenness, and had played in league division in Cricket in Chennai, the then Madras State.
Srinivasan had also talked about how the State of Andhra Pradesh was led down by politicians who favoured private sector over the public sector many years ago. He also served as Collector of Karimnagar and Anantapur districts.
Former RBI Governor Y V Reddy who knew Srinivasan from college days, described him as a remarkable person. "He was extremely dynamic but not high profile. We were colleagues in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India," he recalled.
"He was so much liked. Post-retirement, he was very active in the area of economics. He is essentially an economist but preferred general administration. He was efficient and a thorough gentleman. He has a large following across all sections," Reddy told PTI.
