The Railway is working on manning 802 unmanned Railway crossings, building road over bridges and road under bridges in East Central Railway zone by 2020 in a bid to check accidents, a senior official said today.
"By 2020 the ECR targets to either man the 802 unmanned railway crossing, build Road Over Bridge (ROB), Road Under Bridge (RUB) or eliminate some of them." Additional General Manager of ECR T P Singh told reporters here.
There are 1195 manned Railway Crossing gates in ECR.
ECR comprises of Danapur, Sonepur, Mughalsarai, Dhanbad and Samastipur railway divisions.
Reeling out figures, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Arvind Kumar Rajak said in 2014-15, the ECR constructed 14 ROBs and 16 RUBs. Similarly, in 2015-16 it built 17 RUBs and 7 ROBs.
The ECR officials were interacting with mediapersons on completion of "Rail Hamsafar" week.
In reply to a question on reports of recovery of liquor bottles in trains in Bihar nothwithstanding complete prohibition order issued in the state, Chief Security Commissioner Haranand said GRP is vigilant on the issue and they will take strict action.
"Railway is extending all cooperation to the Bihar government in successful implementation of total prohibition since April 5 last," he added.
The AGM said that as part of "Rail Hamsafar" week, cleanness drive was taken on a war footing in the ECR.
Senior officials of ECR joined hands with various NGOs to sensitise over 10,000 passengers about cleanliness in 120 trains and at 186 stations, Singh said.
