Veteran actor Ed Harris said it was a "foolish" decision to say no to a role in Stanley Kubrick's Vietnam war film "Full Metal Jacket".
The "Westworld" actor, who has over the years worked with the likes of James Cameron, Ron Howard, David Cronenberg and Darren Aronfosky among others, was offered the role of foul-mouthed Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, which was eventually played by R Lee Ermey.
Ermey, 74, died last month from "complications of pneumonia".
Harris made the revelation in an interview with Los Angeles Times terming it as one of his career regrets.
"Stanley Kubrick called me up one day and asked me to play the sergeant in 'Full Metal Jacket', and I said no," Harris said.
"(R Lee Ermey) was great and did a much better job than I would have done. But that always make me kind of go, 'What were you thinking about?' It might have been that I had a few too many beers that night. It was foolish," he added.
The 67-year-old actor recently reprised his "Westworld" role of William, also known as Man in Black, in the second season of the show.
He will also be seen in the Netflix original drama film "Kodachrome".
