The filmmaker's attachment to 'Grasshopper Jungle' comes two months after dropping out as the director of Marvel's 'Ant-Man' in May, reported The Wrap.
A screenplay for Grasshopper Jungle is being written by Scott Rosenberg ('Gone in Sixty Seconds').
The novel centres on an Iowa teenager who unleashes a swarm of human-sized praying mantises to wreak havoc on the local population.
Wright is also developing Baby Driver, a comedy that is said to be similar in tone to his Cornetto trilogy of 'Shaun of the Dead', 'Hot Fuzz' and 'The World's End'.
