Efforts to wean away youth from militancy would continue: DGP

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police SP Vaid today said that efforts to wean away youths from militancy in the state will continue as part of an endeavour to "save them from death and destruction".
The DGP was speaking at a 'police darbar' held at Range Police Headquarters in the Valley.
"To wean away the youth from militancy, our efforts will continue so that all those who wish to live an honourable life, would be saved from death and destruction," Vaid said.
The police chief said measures have been taken to thwart the incidents of weapon snatching in the Valley.

"Some measures have been taken to thwart the incidents of weapon snatching, which are bearing results," he said.
The DGP said a number of sensational crime cases, including the attack on Amarnath Yatra bus on July 10, have been professionally investigated and solved.

Commending the police and other security forces for achievements on anti-militancy front, Vaid said 'operation all out' would continue.
He advised the police personnel to take good care of their health and also take all precautions to protect themselves from militant attacks and stone pelting while on duty.
Vaid said bullet proof vehicles and protective gear should used and care should be taken of the weapons allotted to the people on guard or escort, and other general duties.

Highlighting the role of Srinagar Police in tackling volatile situations, the DGP said all measures must be taken to keep the militancy and law-and-order problems at bay.
He also appreciated the role of police in investigating the lynching case of DSP Mohammad Ayub Pandith. He asked the police officers to bring the criminals to book, but also be polite with the common people who seek help.
The DGP thanked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for increasing the ex-gratia relief substantially from Rs seven lakh to Rs 20 lakh, and for creating J-K Police Service cadre.
"The present dispensation in the government has been kind enough to consider favourably the proposals of PHQ and hoped that the other proposals with regard to opening of promotion avenues of Inspectors, SIs, ASIs and HCs will also be looked into favourably," he said.

Referring to the welfare measures, the DGP said an amount of Rs 21 crore has been disbursed among the police personnel as welfare relief or loan, and around Rs one crore as welfare relief or loan among the SPOs.
During the darbar, orders of 'out-of-turn promotion' to 30 police officers/jawans of the range and conversion orders to 28 SPOswere handed over for their excellent work in fight against militancy.
