Eid-UL-Azha celebrated in West Bengal

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee conveyed 'Eid Mubarak' wishes to the people

Muslims in West Bengal today offered special prayers at mosques and Idgahs on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Azha.

The biggest congregation of the faithful was held at the Indira Gandhi Sarani (formerly Red Road) here with over 25,000 people attending the special prayer.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was away in West Midnapore district to review the flood situation there, conveyed 'Eid Mubarak' wishes to the people of the community.

Prayers were also held at Nakhoda Mosque, Tipu Sultan Mosque, Kalighat Ground, Khidderpore, Rajabazar and Park Circus in the city.

On the occasion, the Imams of Nakhoda and Tipu Sultan Mosques exhorted the people to uphold the Islamic ideals of love, compassion and unflinching faith in the will of Almighty.

Religious and cultural programmes were organised by various organisations for the welfare of the poor and needy.

Leaders of political parties also greeted people on the occasion.

Report from Siliguri said over 5,500 people congregated at Kanchenjunga stadium to offer prayers which was presided over by the Imam of Siliguri Jama Masjid Md Sabere Alam.

He said peace in the country was being affected due to the prevailing situation in the country as well as along the borders. "So, this year we have not prayed for us or our families but for the country's peace and secular fabric of the country".

Local MLA Rudranath Bhattacharya, who also took part in the prayers, later greeted the people.
