Eight NDRF teams have been put on standby to combat the rain-triggered deluge and carry out relief and rescue works in Kashmir Valley.

While two teams have taken position in Srinagar, under Anantnag and Humhama police station areas, three other teams have been airlifted today from various locations to the summer capital of the state which is on alert due to the situation in the aftermath of heavy rains.

Another three teams, comprising about 100 men each, are on standby.

"As on date, total 8 fully equipped search and rescue teams of NDRF shall be available for any response in case of floods in the Kashmir Valley," a statement from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) headquarters here said.

"In view of the impending threat of the flood disaster, two teams each are in the process of being deployed in North and South Kashmir and four teams are being deployed at Central Kashmir," it said.

The force has rushed in from Delhi a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) rank official to hold the fort in the Valley and coordinate operations in this regard, a senior official said.

The NDRF control room in Delhi is closely monitoring the situation and in touch with other agencies, he said.
