"At overall level, employment has increased by 1.17 lakh during the quarter ended December 2014 over September 2014," a Labour Bureau quarterly report on change in employment in select sectors for October-December 2014 said.
The IT/BPOs sector generated 89,000 new jobs during the December quarter over July-September period of 2014, followed by 79,000 in textile segment including apparel sector and 1,000 in leather industry.
In the direct category of workers, employment has increased by 1.01 lakh whereas for contract category of workers, it has increased by 16,000 during the quarter ended December 2014 over September quarter.
The results of the last four quarterly surveys covering the period December 2013 to December 2014 show that the employment at overall level has increased by 4.21 lakh during the period.
The present survey is the 24th in the series of "Quarterly Report on Changes in Employment in Selected Sectors" conducted by the Labour Bureau to assess the changes in employment.
A total of 2,077 sample units have been covered during the survey in eight selected sectors-- textiles including apparels, leather, metals, automobiles, gems & Jewellery, transport, IT/BPO and handloom/powerloom.
