'Ek Tha Rusty', the popular tele-series based on Ruskin Bond's short stories, is all set to make a comeback on the small screen from June with new faces.
The titular role of rusty will be played by 'Special Squad' star Bhanu Uday while Hisheyla Bhutia and Sangey Udenla are on board to play the other prominent roles.
The series will also see Bond's granddaughter Shristi returning to it in a new role of Rusty's second girlfriend.
Shubhadarshini Singh is back on the director's chair and for the second series, to be aired on Doordarshan. She has adapted Bond's 'Sensualist', 'Time Stops at Shamli' and 'Shooting at Mango Top'.
"I have kept the stories as they are except the minor changes in the name of the places. Previously, I made 26 episodes of it but this time Doordarshan has commissioned for 52 episodes. I feel my new starcast is apt for their roles, " Singh said.
For the series, Singh has recreated the era of 60's and given a special attention on the costumes and music.
"Being a young girl during the late 60s era it was not a tough job for me to bring the minute details of the time. Bond sahab also helped me in recreating the time. I am happy to bring the stories again because it feels they were written for today's time," Singh added.
When the small screen is dominated by women-centric roles, Singh is happy to bring a show where male actors have prominent roles.
"I am happy to be a part of the time when women directors are writing and directing. But I feel pity for male actors whose talent is wasted in the daily soaps. They are merely used as props. I haven't found any serial these days where male actors are getting their due credit," Singh said.
'Ek Tha Rusty II ' is currently being shot in Mussoorie.
