An elderly couple was charred to death after their house caught fire at a village in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh in the wee hours of Thursday, police said.
The blaze broke out around 1 am when all the members of the family, including the old couple, were sleeping at their house in Dungaria village, Ari Police Station in-charge Nandkishor Dhurve said.
"The fire spread in the front portion of the house where the old couple- Mangal Singh Dhurve (62) and his wife Ramkali (60)- was sleeping. Their son and his wife were sleeping along with their children in the rear part of the building, which remained unharmed," he said.
The fire was noticed by their neighbours and was brought under control by the villagers.
The police are investigating the incident from all angles, Dhurve said.
