The deceased were identified as Sohan Lal (84) and Seeta (80), police said.
The couple was residing with their son in New Zealand and had come to India a fortnight back to attend a wedding of their relative scheduled for March 24, they said.
Railway police officials said when the couple were crossing the railway crossing near the Ambala City railway station in the afternoon they were hit by the train, police said.
The couple were hit as they failed to notice the approaching train and died on the spot, they said.
