A 63-year-old woman, who was running a social organization in Mansarovar Park area in North East Delhi, was found murdered in her house, police said today.
Vimla Tiwari lived alone in her house at Ashok Nagar locality following her husband's murder in Uttar Pradesh a few years ago. She was found murdered and lying on the floor of the house with head injury and a rope around her neck last night, a police officer said.
She was involved in social service through her NGO for anti-dowry and women exploitation issues. She was last seen on an evening walk on Saturday, he said.
When Vimla did not appear on Sunday one of her friend sent her grandson to her house who found the old lady lying on the floor with face down. Police reached the spot on a PCR call, the officer said.
Neighbours also informed victim's son Amit who lived some distance away with his wife and children.
The entry into victim's house was friendly as empty dishes and glass of water were found in the sitting room and police suspected hand of some person known to the family behind her murder, he said.
A case of murder has been registered at Mansarovar Park police station and investigation is underway, the officer added.
