An election petition challenging the victory of a candidate in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu was filed in the Madras High Court today.
DMK candidate Mohammed Jaleel, who lost to AIADMK's Anwar Raja in Ramanthapuram constituency, filed the petition.
When the petition came up before Justice M M Sundresh, he issued notices to the Returning Officer/District Collector, Ramanathapuram and Anwar Raja.
Jaleel alleged that Anwar Raja had distributed money to the public in the run up to the polls for casting votes in his favour.
He alleged that FIRs had also been filed for the offence of distribution of money by agents of Anwer Raja. Hence, he sought that Raja's election be declared null and void.
