Polling for the AMC, held from 7am to 4 pm, was peaceful without any reports of untoward incidents, Aizawl district SP Lalhuliana Fanai said.
Of the 19 wards, six wards were reserved for women and triangular contest was witnessed in 15 seats while it was a straight contest between the ruling Congress and the Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) combine and the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) in four seats.
Counting began as soon as polling was over and results are expected by tonight as polling was held using paper ballots.
In Haryana, the minimum education required for
eligibility to contest in a panchayat election is completion of matriculation in case of general candidates; completion of class VIII for a woman candidate or a candidate belonging to Scheduled Caste; and completion of class V for a Scheduled Caste woman candidate contesting for the post of 'panch.'
In Rajasthan, it is mandatory for individuals contesting zila parishad or panchayat samiti elections to have a minimum educational qualification of Class X. In case of a sarpanch, the minimum qualification was set at Class VIII and, in the Scheduled Areas, it was Class V.
