A 56-year-old estate worker was today seriously injured after he was attacked by an elephant near Pandalur, about 70 km from here.
Jayaraman was on his way to the estate at Pakna, when an elephant from a herd of eight, came from the bush and hit him with the trunk.
As Jayaraman was trying to escape, the pachyderm gored him in the back, police said.
Hearing his screams, some workers and villagers rushed to the spot and managed to rescue him, they said.
After he was given first aid at a government hospital in Gudalur, Jayaraman was brought to the government hospital here, in a critical condition, police added.
