A man working as a courier of a city-based diamond firm allegedly decamped with 2,500-carat rough diamonds worth Rs 3 crore, forcing the owner to file a case of criminal breach of trust against his employee, police said today.
"Owner of Shree Ram Krishna (SRK) Exports in the city's Katargam area filed a complaint against his employee Sagar Ramesh Kapuriya of criminal breach of trust after he decamped with 2500-carat rough diamonds worth Rs 3 crore," police inspector Pramodkumar Deora, investigating the case, said.
Police has filed a case under Section 408 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which stands for criminal breach of trust by a servant or a clerk.
When asked if the police has charged Kapuriya for theft, Deora said that the case pertains only to a breach of trust and not theft, since the employee served there for three years and he decamped with the diamonds, by breaching his owner's trust.
Kapuriya, who had been working as a courier for SRK Exports, was given the task of supplying rough diamonds to another unit of the firm yesterday, Deora said.
He collected the rough diamonds from one unit of SRK Exports, but he did not hand them over to its other units, Deora said.
Meanwhile, the police has collected crucial closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the diamond firm, which has captured Kapuriya's act of taking diamonds from the office.
The police has also formed three teams to nab him, Deora said.
