Employees of pvt firm go missing with Rs 7.5 cr

Four employees of a privatefirm, tasked to transport Rs 7.5 crorefrom an Axis bank branch here to Bengaluru, have been reported missing, the police said today.
The four employees of Prosegur Holdings - driver Karibasava, custodian Parashurama, gunmen Poovanna and Basappa - had loaded the currency from the Yeyyadi branch of the Axis Bank here yesterday in a car to ferry it tothe Koramangala branch in Bengaluru, the police said.
It said there was no information about them after they left and it was suspected they have run away with the money as the currency chest has not yetreached its destination.
A case of breach of trust and cheating has been registered against them on a complaint by Sachin,in-charge of Prosegur-Holdings unit at nearby Konchady, police said, adding that further investigation was on.
Meanwhile, the Axis Bank spokesperson said in a statement in Bengaluru said its cash transfer systems and processes are robust and fully compliant with existing regulations.
The cash was being transferred by SIS Prosegur Holding Pvt Ltd, a cash transfer agency and the amounts being transferred were fully insured, it said.
Neither the van in question nor the staff involved belonged to the bank, the statement said.
"The matter is being investigated by the police and we are committed to providing whatever assistance as is required by the authorities towards this end," the statement added.
