Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and caught Amiya Kumar Panda, JE in Sadar Block at Puri, red handed while demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 7,000 from the Complainant, vigilance department sources said.
Complainant Ranjit Lenka had been given work order for construction of an 'akhada' at Lokanath Road in Puri and Rs two lakh was sanctioned under MLA Local Area Development fund during 2016-17.
Thereafter, he requested JE Panda to take measurement of the work and to prepare the bill. But, Panda demanded Rs 10,000 and later reduced the amount to Rs 7,000, they said.
Finding no other alternative, Lenka reported the matter to SP, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division.
Accordingly, a trap was laid today and Lenka met the accused JE in his office room at Sadar Block office, Puri and handed over the bribe money of Rs 7,000. The bribe money has been recovered and and Panda arrested, sources said.
