The militants kidnapped the engineer along with three others from Khairabari when they were returning from their workplace last night.
The three others were later released.
The engineer has been identified as Angan Rao.
Several organisations have condemned the abduction and have appealed to he captors to release the engineer.
A search operation was on to trace him, the police said.
