Despite adequate water stocks in the reservoirs, power cuts may disrupt the supply in some parts of the state, Goa Public Works Department Minister Sudin Dhavalikar today said.
"Even if there is a ten-minute power interruption, we take at least three to four hours to resume the normal water supply," Dhavalikar said, talking to PTI here.
There was no shortage of water at present except some hilly areas. In some areas there were logistical issues, he added.
Residents of Mormugao tehsil and some parts of Sattari had complained of disruptions in water supply, which was forcing them to buy water from private suppliers.
Dhavalikar said in some high-altitude areas it was difficult to pump the water. However, the four major reservoirs in the state had more water compared to the last year, the minister said.
Only at Selaulim reservoir, the biggest in the state, the level was lower than the last year which stood at 32.98 mts as against 33.98 mts in May 2013, whereas, the water levels in all other reservoirs were more or less the same in comparison to last year.
Dhavalikar said that government was planning to provide water tanks to the people living in the high-altitude areas.
