Equal number of complaints of stray animal menage and garbage

Civic complaints filed before the municipal corporations in Delhi regarding menace of stray animals almost equal the number of complaints received about garbage and filth, reveals a report prepared by a governance advocacy group.
The report based on data compiled through RTI queries analyses the working of ward committees and civic services provided by the three municipal corporations in Delhi.
The six months data (Jan-June, 2014) obtained through RTI, revealed that a total of 31551 civic complaints were received by the municipal corporations during the period, said Nitai Mehta of Praja Foundation.
"Among the total complaints while solid waste management complaints were 9636, significantly there were also 9163 complaints about nuisance due to stray dogs, cow, monkeys and other animals," he said referring to Praja.Org report.

Complaints concerned with parks, pest control, drainage, road and other civic issues were also received by the civic bodies, report stated.
The findings of report on functioning of ward committees also highlighted the level of participation of the councillors in raising issues and asking questions.
"A significant finding of the report is that women's attendance in the committee is more than that of the men in 2014. Women had an attendance of 60 per cent as compared to 59 percent of men," Mehta said.
Pointing to significance of the report, Mehta said "in order to create a culture of good governance, dialogue among stakeholders is essential. Facts of the report gathered through RTI are aimed at facilitating this dialogue process.
