At least four persons were injured as Congress workers demanding investigation of alleged links of BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya with Dhruv Saxena, one of the 11 people arrested on the charge of spying for Pakistan, clashed with BJP workers here.
ATS last week arrested eleven people for allegedly being part of espionage ring from various places in Madhya Pradesh.
A group of about 50 Congress workers staged a protest in front of Pardeshipura police station this morning, alleging that photos showing Vijayvargiya and Saxena together were circulating, and police should investigate the links between the two. The protest led to clash between Congress and BJP workers.
Vijayvargiya is a resident of this area.
"Two workers each of Congress and BJP suffered minor injuries in the clash. Both the groups filed complaints against each other and further inquiry is on," said Sudhir Kumar Das, in-charge of Pardeshipura police station.
BJP's media in-charge Lokendra Parashar denied the allegations. "Vijayvargiya is a senior leader and has to attend several functions. Several people get pictures clicked with him during such functions. Such pictures don't prove his proximity with any person," Parashar said.
State Congress spokesperson Narendra Saluja alleged that BJP leaders attacked the protesting Congressmen with sticks and baseball bats in the presence of police.
"BJP is resorting to hooliganism. They want to deprive the people of right to protest democratically," he said.
