Speaking in the three-day international seminar on India's North-East and Buddhist heritage, bridge between South and South East Asia, Sarkar said Lord Buddha's teachings should be spread throughout the globe to reduce war and avert clashes between different countries and communities.
The essence of Buddhism is to foster human values and usher peace in the world, but these can't be attained till poverty, hunger and illiteracy remained, he said.
Organized by International Buddhist Confederation it was attended by eminent participants from Hong Kong, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Srilanka, Nepal and Bhutan.
Ven Athuraliye Rathana Thera, a Member of Parliament of Sri Lanka exhorted the global community to utilize renewable energy and sustainable agriculture system to save people from global warming.
This seminar gains immense significance as India has long embraced 'Look-East policy', and renewed it lately as the 'Act East' policy, reviving hopes of ending the isolation of the region and opening up the region to a larger South Asia arena, Secretary of the International Buddhist Confederation, Ven. Lama Lobzang said.
