The Congress today targeted the BJP in the Rajya Sabha, saying the recent incidents in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat showed that development for the saffron party only meant the development of its communal agenda.
Congress member Kapil Sibal, while participating in a debate on the Finance Bill, also attacked the government, saying it had failed to fulfil its promises of generating jobs and supporting farmers whose suicides are increasing.
Taking a dig, he said since the government had failed to create employment, the jobless youth could only join ABVP and carry out attacks in JNU.
"There have been only 1 lakh 35 thousand or, as some insist, 1 lakh 50 thousand jobs, instead of 2 crore that were promised. And what do the jobless youth do, they join ABVP and carry out attacks in JNU," the Congress member said taking a jibe.
He was clearly referring to last year's incident in JNU involving a clash between ABVP and SFI students.
Sibal, a former Union Minister, said the suicides of farmers too have been rising in the last 2-3 years and the promises of the government have remained hollow.
The Congress leader advised the government to stop making political speeches or "jumlas" (slogans) and work for welfare of the people.
