Nita Ambani, Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, today said preventing female infanticide is an important part in campaign to protect women's rights.
"I just feel that we must be fighting not only for women and girl but also even (against) female infanticide where the minute they know it is a girl child she is not even given chance to live," she said.
"So I think it is up to all of us to see that women are safe and ensure all our girls are given education. These are the basic things that we must have as citizens of India," Nita told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.
Nita was in the city to see some of the projects undertaken by Aashray Foundation, headed by Nirmala Grace, a recipient of 'Real Heroes Award', given in association with Reliance Foundation to Indians who are making extraordinary contribution in people's lives.
She visited an Aashray Foundation-run school for girls rescued from Jogini system (under which a woman is married to a deity/temple and eventually forced into flesh trade).
The wife of industrialist Mukesh Ambani said she has come here not to do any charity work but to get inspired by the work done by Grace to save girls from Jogini system.
"I must clarify that I have not come here to do any charity work. I have come here to meet Grace. I am really inspired by the work she does," Nita said.
