"The new academic session is going to start from April 1 therefore, Chairpersons/Presidents of such Societies/Trusts are hereby once again directed to admit 25 per cent children belonging to EWS category in their Nursery/Pre-Primary /Play schools/Creches in the academic session 2016-17," said a communication sent to schools by the Directorate of Education (DoE).
As per provisions of the Right to Education Act, 2009, all schools are required to reserve 25 per cent seats for students under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Disadvantaged Group (DG) category.
The government had last month increased the amount of reimbursement to private schools for each admission under the two categories following complaints from the school heads about the amount being too less. The amount has been raised to Rs 1,598 from Rs 1,290.
During the ongoing admission for entry level classes, the government has allotted over 26,600 seats through computerised draws under the EWS category, an experiment that has been introduced by the Delhi government for the first time.
