Ex-minister, kin surrender in court in cheating case

Former Tamil Nadu minister KKSSR Ramachandran and two of his family members today surrendered before a special court in a cheating case.
Ramachandran, his son Ramesh and his brother Subburaj surrendered before the magistrate court in Srivilliputtur in connection with the case registered on a complaint by a DMK functionary, J M Bose.
Bose had alleged he paid Rs 32 lakh to DMK leader Ramachandran in March 2011 to get a party ticket to contest from Srivilliputhur constituency. But he was denied ticket and when he sought back his money, Ramachandran and the other two accused harassed him.
He further charged that the former minister and others had committed offences under the SC/ST Act following which a case was registered against them.
On their plea, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court had April 30 had allowed the three to surrender in the Srivilliputhur court and directed police not to arrest them till then.
Accordingly, they surrendered in the court today following which the Magistrate granted bail on condition that they sign at the local police station daily.
