The 43-year-old accused, identified as Vilas Chauhan, has a past criminal on record and is prima facie disgruntled over being removed from the post of chairman.
"As per the residents' account, Chauhan was involved in similar incidents in past and was sulking since his removal as society chairman in 2013," said a station duty officer of Hadapsar police station.
He said the incident, which happened in the wee hours today, came to light after some of the residents noticed that seat covers of their motorcycles were shredded.
Chauhan was booked under various sections of IPC for theft and mischief.
