The Jammu and Kashmir government today announced that the annual school examinations in the flood-hit Valley will be held in the last week of October and first week of November.
"The annual examinations for the classes I to IX and Class XI in Kashmir Valley will be conducted in the last week of October while the board examinations for classes X and XII will be held in first week of November," an official spokesman said after a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand here.
While reviewing educational activities in the Valley following floods, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the officers concerned to make elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of these examinations and issue necessary date sheets for the information of students.
Chand, who holds the Education portfolio, also directed all the Chief Education Officers to ensure regular classes in all the schools, especially those affected by floods.
He also called for ensuring safety of students while entering in the flood-hit buildings, saying such buildings must be inspected by the Public Works Department authorities as has been decided by the Government.
Chand also directed the Director of School Education, Kashmir to ensure proper sanitation, safe drinking water and adequate medical facilities in all the schools of the Valley.
He also issued instructions to the Board of School Education authorities to take immediate steps for the availability of text books for the new classes in time.
Meanwhile, taking serious note of the absence of Chief Education Officers of Kupwara and Kulgam district in today's meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the Director School Education to call for their explanation.
