Anil Dighambar Ursal, an Excise Inspector posted at powerloom town of Bhiwandi near here, accepted the bribe money through his associate Kishore R Salvi (50), Additional Superintendent of Police (ACB-Thane unit) Shirinivas Ghadge said in release here this evening.
Ursal (55) had demanded Rs 2,800 as monthly 'hafta' (bribe) from the shop owner from allowing him to run his business unhindered.
The shop owner agreed to pay the amount and at the same time lodged a complaint with the ACB, which laid a trap and caught Salvi accepting the money on behalf of the officer at the State Excise office in Bhiwandi this afternoon, the release said.
