F N Souza tops ArtDeal auction

Modern artist F N Souza's untitled canvas fetched Rs 1.70 crore at an auction held here by auction house ArtDeal, auctioneers said.
The auction titled "Framed Sentiments" at the Vivanta by Taj hotel on September 25 featured 100 lots of the works by eminent masters like S H Raza, Souza, Jamini Roy, Pablo Picasso and emerging contemporaries like Mousumi Biswas, Shampa Sircar Das, Shridhar Iyer, Arpana Caur among others.
An acrylic on canvas by S H Raza titled 'Aalingan' of concentric cirles depicting the circle of life was sold for Rs 51 lakh.
A ceramic bowl by Pablo Picasso fetched a bid of Rs 8 lakh. The vessel had become muse of the painter in 1946 ever since he visited the Madoura pottery workshop in France.

Sketches by M F Husain, "Knight watch", a set of three pen on paper drawings each got a bid of Rs 10.50 lakhs. Another art work by Husain titled "Gurunanak Dev ji", a digital canvas print fetched Rs 10.20 lakhs.
The event also showcased photographs and digital works with sculptures in various media of wood, fibre and bronze.
