Fake currency notes of over Rs 2.40 lakh seized, one held

Counterfeit currency having a face value of over Rs 2.40 lakh was seized from a notorious smuggler in the border district of Barmer, police said here today.
In a joint search operation of Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Special Action Group (SOG), the history-sheeter Nawab alias Nabiya was arrested with his accomplice, on the border district of Barmer last night.
A total of Rs 2,47,500 counterfeit currency in the denomination of Rs 500 were seized from the smuggler Nawab travelling in vehicle with his aides who was intercepted by the sleuths of ATS-SOG at Hatma-Phanta check post in Barmer district, quoting Additional Director-General of ATS-SOG, an official said.
Nawab and his accomplice Kachra Khan travelling with fake currency in a scorpio vehicle were arrested, the ADG said.
Both were being interrogated to explore their links with other counterfeit currency suppliers, he said, adding they probably brought this consignment from across the Indo-Pak border.
A case was registered with the Gudamalani police station against them, the ADG was quoted.
Nawab was a history-sheeter in Ramsar Thana, and in one of the cases of fake currency, drugs smuggling, he was granted ten year of imprisonment, police said, adding he was released on bail in October.
