The Delhi Economic Survey 2014-15 also highlighted that on an average, the population in Delhi has 7.5 years of schooling as compared to the corresponding all India figure of 4.8 years.
The number of Delhi government schools increased to 1,007 in 2014-15, from 992 in 2013-14. However, enrolment of students in these schools was 15,41992 as compared to the figure of 16,10405 in the previous fiscal.
The number of unaided schools remained 2,277 in 2014-15 as it was an year ago. The enrolment, however, increased in 2014-15 to 14,70857 as compared to 13,56818 in 2013-14.
The enrolment in primary and middle classes in private schools increased from 36 per cent in 2011-12 to 38 per cent in 2013-14. At the secondary and senior secondary level there was a marginal increase in enrollment of private schools, the survey said.
Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi has given more importance to promotion of education particularly girl children and spending more than 10 per cent of plan funds to this sector, said the survey.
The total expenditure (plan and non-plan) on education including sports, arts and culture increased from Rs 4,085 crore in 2009-10 to Rs 6,895 crore in 2014-15.
The percentage expenditure on education by the government in the total budget of Delhi increased from 16.39 per cent in 2009-10 to 19.82 per cent in 2014-15.
The percentage of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) expenditure on education, however, decreased to 1.53 per cent in 2014-15 as compared to 1.58 per cent in 2013-14. It was highest at 1.88 per cent in 2009-10, the survey said.
