Those killed included two women and a four-year-old child, besides the car driver, they said.
Police said the family, hailing from Mahasamund in Chattisgarh were on their way to Udhagamandalam to attend a marriage on April 27.
Since the family had a day to spare, they decided to go to the tourist town of Kodaikanal, about 115 km from here when the mishap occurred, police said.
