Famous production manager Abby Singer dies

Abby Singer, a veteran production manager and assistant director, who was a part of the Directors Guild of America for more than 60 years, has passed away at the age of 96.
Abby died yesterday morning of cancer and old age at the Motion Picture and Television Country House in Woodland Hills, reported Deadline.
Born in New York City, Abby started out as second assistant director on the Oscar-nominated 1951 adaptation of 'Death of a Salesman' and worked on features for Columbia Pictures' including 'Cannibal Attack' and '7th Cavalry' before heading to TV.
He then landed at Mary Tyler Moore and Grant Tinker's MTM Productions, where he oversaw series such as 'Rhoda', 'Phyllis', 'The Bob Newhart Show', 'WKRP In Cincinnati', 'The White Shadow', 'Hill Street Blues' and 'St Elsewhere'.

His last film as unit production manager was in 1997's 'Family Plan'. He later taught at the American Film Institute Conservatory.
Abby joined the Screen Directors Guild in 1949, which merged with the Radio and Television Directors Guild in 1960 to form the Directors Guild of America.
He is survived by his wife, Lotte Singer, two biological daughters, Jo Ann Singer, Laura Wolf and a stepdaughter Erica Shepherd.
