Even as the prices of onions are soaring, a 300 quintal of its stock was allegedly set afire by an unidentified person at a village here, police said today.
The large stock of onions and other material, stored at a chawl by farmer Rajaram Bachhav at Naradane village in Malegaon taluka of Nashik, was reduced to ashes after an unknown person torched it yesterday, police said.
Later, farmers in the village protested against the incident and asked police to nab the culprit at the earliest.
