The 34-year-old "The Raid" actor will play a key part opposite Idris Elba, who plays a villain in the third instalment of the rebooted sci-fi franchise, said The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie, directed by Justin Lin of "Fast and Furious 6" fame, also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho and Sofia Boutella.
Taslim last worked with Lin when he played the bad guy Luke Evans in "Fast & Furious 6."
