Father beaten up with iron rods for lodging police complaint

A father has been brutally beaten up with iron rods in Malda after he lodged a police complaint against a man who made indecent proposals to his daughter, the police said today.
The man, Jena Chowdhury, filed a complaint against Rintu Sheikh at Pukuria police station on November 8 last following the indecent proposals made to his 25-year-old daughter, which she had spurned, the police said.
Sheikh went to Chowdhury's house at Lakkhighat area yesterday and threatened him for approaching the police and then beat him with iron rods, the police said.
Chowdhury was admitted to Malda Medical College and Hospital and the injuries inflicted on his eyes were serious, hospital authorities said.

Malda superintendent of police Prasun Banerjee said the police was investigating the matter and would take appropriate action.
Meanwhile, Sheikh is absconding from the area, the police said.
The woman used to stay with her parents at Lakkhighat after she became a widow.
