FDCI, Textiles Ministry collaborate to promote handloom

Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), Development Commissioner handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, have collaborated to reinvent indigenous crafts by handloom weavers through effective skill development.
Under this collaboration, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between FDCI designers and Weavers Service Centers across India.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Minister of Textiles, Smriti Irani, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Minister of State Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Ajay Tamta Minister of State- Ministry of Textiles among others.
The MoU, signed between Alok Kumar, Development Commissioner Handlooms and Sunil Sethi, president FDCI, will facilitate designer intervention at selected Weavers Service Centers, said a statement here.
Designers will impart professional training in design development at various centres to help them become more contemporary without losing traditional focus.
The strategy has been devised with the long-term goal of making the handloom weaver an entrepreneur, through knowledge sharing and resource optimisation.
FDCI designers include Rajesh Pratap Singh, Anju Modi, Rakesh Thakore, Rina Dhaka, Rahul Mishra, Abhishek Gupta, Samant Chauhan and Shruti Sancheti.
