Federation demands NREGA-type job guarantee for Khadi workers

Noting that Khadi Kamgar were given very low wages, the Federation of Rajasthan Khadi Gramodyog Sanstha Sangh today demanded that Khadi Kutir Udyog workers should be given wages at par with the NREGA labourers.
A job guarantee with a daily payment of Rs 150 for 8 hours of work, similar to the scheme under the NREGA, should be extended to 50,000 Khadi Kamgar engaged in 135 Khadi small scale units in Rajasthan, Federation Secretary Rajendra Bhandari said.
At present spinners get Rs 3 for each piece of spin-bundle and weavers earn a daily remuneration up to Rs 70, Bhandari said, adding, most of the minority and poor women were engaged at their homes for khadi units.
