'Fifty Shades of Grey will release on August 1, 2014.
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson from a script by Kelly Marcel, the film will be released domestically by Focus with a worldwide release to follow from Universal Pictures International, the Hollywood Reporter said.
Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are producing the movie with James.
Focus and Universal paid USD 5 million for movie rights to the best-selling trilogy.
The film is yet to cast actors to play protagonists Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Names like Ryan Gosling, Aaron Johnson and Robert Pattinson have been doing the rounds to take on the role of Grey.
