Kerala High Court today directed the state government to file periodical reports indicating the progress made in the matter of rehabilitation of victims of pesticide endosulfan in Kasaragod district.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P R Ramachandra Menon passed the order in this regard while considering a batch of petitions seeking compensation to endosulfan victims.
Even though, the government informed the court that the terms of agreement suggesting benefits to the victims was being enforced, court expressed dissatisfaction in delaying grant of benefits and directed it to file reports on their rehabilitation and the compensation paid.
The petition has been posted to July 14 for further hearing.
A large number of people in the district have been suffering from ailments caused due to exposure to endosulfan, a pesticide sprayed in cashew plantations in the district in the late 1990s.
