A fire broke out today at a jute mill in the eastern part of the city.

Ten fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames at Calcutta Jute Mill in Kadapara area.

The fire started at 1.55 pm, an official in the Fire and Emergency Services department of the state government said, adding that efforts are on to control the blaze.

A source close to the management of the jute mill said the fire erupted outside the main factory and not on its premises.

The place where the fire broke out today was used to store raw materials and jute waste, he said.
