A lower court here today allowed the city police to collect voice samples of gangster Sushant Dhalasamant and suspended BJD Corporator Ranjita Biswal, who are in police custody in connection with the last months firing incident at Subhadrapur.

The police had moved an application before the JMFC court here claiming that they have a CD which contained the alleged conversation between Sushant and Ranjita in connection with the Subhadrapur firing incident and their plans to commit more crimes in the city.

Allowing police prayer, the court has granted permission to the investigating officers to collect the voice samples of the accused, said public prosecutor Biswajit Baral adding that the voice samples along with the CD will be sent to forensic science laboratory for an expert opinion.

Sushant, along with his younger brother Sushil, were arrested in January 2016 for their involvements in several other crimes. Ranjita was however, arrested last week for her alleged role in facilitating and abetting crimes in the city, including the Subhadrapur firing incident.

Police had also claimed that Ranjita had received illegal firearms from unknown sources and passed them on to one Mrityunjay Naik, who was one of the four arrested persons in the firing incident in which a works contractor Bijoy Pal was targeted.

Police had also claimed that Sushant, from a jail in Bhubaneswar, had hatched a plan to eliminate a few persons, including a police officer and a political leader.

As part of their investigation, police had taken the duo on remand for questioning. The remand period will end on Friday.
