Separate cases were registered against the leaders of the Congress and the CPI(M) in Shimla for allegedly blocking traffic and violating prohibitory orders during 'Bharat Bandh' on Monday, police said.

An FIR was registered against Rajni Patil, the Congress incharge for Himachal Pradesh; party state president Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu; Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri; and MLAs Ram Lal Thakur, Anirudh Singh, Nand Lal and Vikramaditya Singh.

They have been booked under Sections 143, 188, 341 and 336 of the Indian Penal Code, Superintendent of Police Omapati Jamwal said.

The FIR was lodged for blocking traffic outside the Congress Bhawan on Circular Road and for violating prohibitory orders issued under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), Jamwal said.

Legal action would be taken accordingly on identifying who blocked traffic and participated in the procession, the SP clarified.

A separate FIR was lodged against Rakesh Singha, the CPI(M) MLA from Theog, along with some other Left and CITU leaders at Shimla West police station under Sections 341 and 143 of the IPC for allegedly blocking the national highway for about half-an-hour near the Victory Tunnel.
